In 1977, following the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash, Daniels penned a poem dedicated to his friend Ronnie Van Zant, which later appeared as a tribute on the Million Mile Reflections album. By late 1978, the band had finished recording the tracks for what would become their biggest hit, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," which was released just months later in early 1979.
